Babur Şah ve Aruz İmlası

Abstract

Arabic aruz, as laid by Halîl b. Ahmed, was developed in accordance
with the rules and spelling of Arabic, and a writing method of
philological value was put forward, which directed the poetic texts to the
correct reading and pronunciation according to the meter as desired by
the author, and which was based on tactics in order to ensure harmony,
called aruz spelling or hattu’l-‘aruz. When the Arabic alphabet began to be
used for writing Turkish in the Eastern Turkish area, Turkish spelling was
continued. This caused difficulties or differences in the reading of texts
written in aruz in accordance with the meter. For this reason, in books on
aruz presented in Eastern Turkish, the issue of spelling and the differences
between the writing of Turkish and the writing of Arabic and Persian
words, sounds that are written but not read, and phonetic features that
create opportunities in some aruz applications are comparatively included.
There are also verse texts written in such an aruz style that reveals
meter in the Western Turkish area and shows differences compared to
the standard spelling for tactics. Babur Shah also explains this subject
with expertise in his Aruz Book, and shows with examples how aruz
spelling or hattu’l-‘aruz can be applied in Turkish poems written with aruz
and Turkish spelling. He demonstrates this example by writing a couplet
in a way that can be read in 504 meters. In this study, it was tried to determine
the rules in Babur Shah’s 504 meter application, which is especially
based on tactics.
