Abstract

In the Khorezm dialectal zone, which is part of the Uzbek language
massif, which is a component of the Turkic linguistic space, there are
areas of the population speaking the Oghuz and Kipchak dialects of
the Uzbek language, as well as the Karakalpak, Turkmen, and Kazakh
languages. Accordingly, inter-dialectal (internal) and inter-lingual
(external) intermediate dialects have emerged in the zone. In the areal
linguistic classification of the dialectal zone, Turkmen dialects belong to
the Turkmen-Uzbek intermediate dialects of the external intermediate
dialects and are divided into two: Tortkul-type dialects (TTD), Urgenchtype
dialects (UTD). The Turtkul-type Turkmen dialects include the villages
of Akkamish, Akbashli, Kaltaminar, Atayurt, Pakhtachi, Pakhtaabad, and
Atauba in the Tortkul district, the villages of Sarimay and Nukus Maskani
in the Tuprakkala district, Tazabagh in the Ellikkala district, the village
of Mahtumkuli in the Beruniy district, and the village of Amir Temur in
the Amudarya district. The Urgench-type Turkmen dialects include the
villages of Turkmanlar in the Urgench district, Shikh in the Koshkopir
district, Bostan in the Shavat district, Vakillar in the Yangiarik district,
and Kalajikkala in the Baghat district. Although the Uzbek language has
influenced TTD, in most cases Turkmen language features prevail, but UTD
has preserved Turkmen elements only in some places, and in most places
it reflects the same linguistic features as the surrounding Uzbek dialects.
In this dialectal zone, the Urgench-Khiva dialects, as a focal point,
have an impact on the surrounding languages and dialects. This impact
occurs at all three levels of the language: phonetics, lexis, and grammar.
This article discusses the lexical impact of Uzbek dialects in the
dialectal zone on Turkmen dialects.
